5 Quick & Filling Suhoor Ideas for Ramadan

5 Quick & Filling Suhoor Ideas for Ramadan

Figuring out what to eat for suhoor can sometimes be harder than deciding what to make for iftar! You want something quick and easy, especially when you’re preparing food in the early hours of the morning, but you also want something satisfying enough to see you through the day.

So I’ve put together 5 quick and filling suhoor ideas that are simple, tasty and perfect for Ramadan.

These also work brilliantly as everyday breakfast ideas, so you certainly don’t have to wait until Ramadan to try them.

1. Avocado, Banana & Spinach Smoothie

If you struggle to eat a full meal early in the morning, a smoothie can be a really easy option.

For this one I used:

  • Avocado
  • Banana
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries
  • Orange juice
  • Honey, if needed

Simply put everything into a blender and blend until smooth.

The avocado gives the smoothie a lovely creamy texture, while the banana adds sweetness and makes it more substantial. You can easily change the fruit depending on what you have at home.

You could also prepare the fruit and other ingredients the night before so that all you need to do at suhoor time is blend everything together.

2. Desi-Style Scrambled Eggs

You can’t really go wrong with eggs for suhoor, and this is a slightly more interesting version of ordinary scrambled eggs.

I used a mixture of:

  • Eggs
  • Mushrooms
  • Tomatoes
  • Green pepper
  • Spring onions
  • Coriander
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Paprika
  • Olive oil

You can also add chopped onions and chilli if you like a little more heat.

Start by cooking the vegetables in a little olive oil until softened.

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with the salt, black pepper and paprika. Pour the egg mixture over the cooked vegetables and gently stir until the eggs are scrambled and cooked through.

I like to turn the heat off when the eggs are almost ready and allow the residual heat from the pan to finish cooking them. This helps prevent the eggs from becoming too dry.

Serve with parathas, toast, baguette or whatever bread you prefer.

And, of course, a nice cup of tea!

3. Oat & Yoghurt Pancakes

Pancakes are always a favourite in our house, but for suhoor I like the idea of using oats rather than making ordinary pancakes with just plain flour.

For these pancakes I used porridge oats and Greek yoghurt along with the usual pancake ingredients.

The easiest method is simply to put everything into a blender and blend until you have a pancake batter.

Then cook the pancakes in a frying pan, flipping them once so they’re nicely cooked on both sides.

Serve them with toppings such as:

  • Banana
  • Fresh berries
  • Greek yoghurt
  • Honey
  • Dates
  • Other fresh fruit

You can experiment with different toppings so they don’t feel like the same breakfast every time.

If you don’t have a blender, instant oats would make this even easier.

4. Cheesy Grilled Baguettes

These cheesy grilled baguettes are a lovely savoury suhoor idea when you fancy something a little different.

For mine I used:

  • Baguette
  • Eggs
  • Spinach
  • Mushrooms
  • Tomato
  • Grated cheddar
  • Mozzarella
  • Black pepper

Slice the baguette and place the pieces onto a lined oven tray.

Mix together the chopped vegetables, egg and cheese, then spoon the mixture over each piece of baguette.

Sprinkle with a little black pepper and bake or grill until the egg has cooked and the cheese is beautifully melted.

You could chop the vegetables the night before and keep them covered in the fridge. That way there’s much less preparation to do when you wake up for suhoor.

5. Fruity Granola & Yoghurt Bowl

And finally, this one is for those mornings when you really cannot be bothered cooking anything!

A granola and yoghurt bowl takes just a couple of minutes to put together.

I used:

  • Greek yoghurt
  • Raisin & almond granola
  • Fresh fruit
  • Honey
  • A little demerara sugar for crunch

Simply layer everything together in a bowl and enjoy.

Add plenty of different fruits if you have them available. You could also add nuts, seeds or dates to make your bowl a little more substantial.

It’s probably the easiest of all five ideas and perfect for those mornings when turning the cooker on feels like far too much effort!

Make Suhoor Easier by Preparing the Night Before

One thing that can make suhoor much easier is doing as much preparation as possible before going to bed.

You could chop your vegetables, portion smoothie ingredients, prepare pancake ingredients or simply decide what you’re going to eat beforehand.

Because at that time of the morning, the last thing you want to be doing is standing in the kitchen wondering:

“What am I going to make?”

Even a little preparation can make a big difference.

5 Easy Suhoor Ideas to Try

So, to recap, my five ideas are:

  1. Avocado, banana & spinach smoothie
  2. Desi-style scrambled eggs
  3. Oat & yoghurt pancakes
  4. Cheesy grilled baguettes
  5. Fruity granola & yoghurt bowl

You can also mix and match the ideas throughout Ramadan and change the ingredients depending on what you already have in the fridge.

Most importantly, keep things simple. Suhoor doesn’t need to be an elaborate meal.

I hope these ideas give you a little inspiration for your Ramadan meals and make those early mornings that bit easier.

Ramadan Mubarak! 🌙
