Five Yummy Halal Sandwich Filling Ideas

Assalaamu alaikum and hello 🙂

In this post I share with you five halal sandwich filling ideas.

Perfect for lunch at work/school/home, or for jacket potatoes or sides in your meals at home. They can also be added to salad for a healthier option.

1) Pulled Chicken Filling

Ingredients required:

  • Chicken Drumsticks x 2 (skin off)
  • Mayonnaise
  • Bbq Sauce

Method

  1. Add chicken, 1 tbspn oil, 1/4 tspn salt, 1/8 tspn chilli powder to a pan and cook on medium heat for approx 10-15 minutes until chicken is cooked thoroughly (add a little water if too dry).
  2. Transfer chicken to a small bowl and allow to cool. Remove chicken from bones. Using two forks, pull the chicken into thin shreds (use one fork to hold the chicken in place, and the other to pull the chicken).
  3. Add 3 tbspns of mayonnaise and 1 tbspn of bbq sauce to the chicken and mix well.
  4. Transfer to a small pot and refrigerate.

2) Tuna, Olive and Mayo Filling

Ingredients required:

  • 1 tin of Tuna Chunks
  • 6-7 Pitted Black Olives
  • Mayonnaise

Method

  1. Drain tuna chunks and transfer to a small bowl.
  2. Add 4 tbspns of mayonnaise.
  3. Slice olives into the bowl, add 1/4 tspn of ground black pepper (optional) and mix well.
  4. Transfer to a small pot and refrigerate.

3) Cheese and Cherry Tomato filling

Ingredients required:

  • 1/2 cup Grated Cheese (Cheddar or similar)
  • Cherry Tomatoes x 3
  • Mayonnaise

Method

  1. Add cheese and 2 tbspns mayonnaise to a small bowl and mix well.
  2. Cut cherry tomatoes into quarters, and mix into the cheese mayonnaise mixture.
  3. Transfer to a small pot and refrigerate.

4) Prawn Marie Rose filling

Ingredients required:

  • 3/4 cup Prawns (cooked and peeled)
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise
  • Lemon juice

Method

  1. Add prawns to a pan of water and bring to the boil.
  2. Drain prawns into a small bowl.
  3. Make the marie rose sauce by mixing together 2 tbspns mayonnaise, 1 tbspn ketchup and a dash of lemon juice.
  4. Add the marie rose sauce to the prawns and mix together.
  5. Transfer to a small pot and refrigerate.

5) Smoked Salmon, Soft Cheese and Chives filling

Ingredients required:

  • 60g Smoked Salmon Trimmings
  • 3 tbspns Soft Cheese
  • Chives
  • Lemon juice (optional)

Method

  1. Add smoked salmon and soft cheese to a small bowl and mix well.
  2. Chop approx. 1 tbspn chives into mixture, add a dash lemon juice and mix.
  3. Transfer to a small pot and refrigerate.
